Tectonics of Time
Tectonics of Time is a fictional representation of future Tokyo.
As the land prices in Tokyo keep increasing, the old, traditional architecture is moved away from the ground level, and onto the rooftop level—to make space for concrete, steel and glass high-rises.
Ohashi Dōri: Meiji-era storefronts forming a street on the rooftop of a high-rise building, connected to the neighboring buildings via bridges.
Small shinto shrine on a rooftop.
Left to right: a dry garden, a small wooden bridge with paper lanterns, and a small tea house.
Machiya (townhouse) style buildings on top of a sloped podium supported by criss-cross timber structure inspired by Kiyomizu-Dera temple, transitioning into a bridge lit up by paper lanterns.
A small rooftop street with buildings inspired by the traditional architecture in Kawagoe.
A five-story pagoda inspired by the one in Nara.
